WALES SUMMER TOUR
South Africa 2022
Wales are to tour South Africa in May/June 2022 and we will be offering several tour packages following the Test matches as well as a full sightseeing programme.
Although we do not know the match venues as yet, we will be including visits to Cape Town, Table Mountain, the wine estates and the Cape Peninsula, Durban, Rorke’s Drift and the Zulu Battlefields, safaris to see the “Big Five” at some of the best game reserves – plus of course a trip to the Victoria Falls. Below is a sample programme (not confirmed and subject to date and match details).

SAMPLE TOUR PROGRAMME
Depart London Heathrow
Depart Johannesburg. Arrive Durban. Transfer to Sun Hotel Maharani on Durban beachfront.
Stay 4 nights. Evening Welcome Dinner at Moyos.
Pre-Test lunch at Harlequins Rugby Club.
Transfer to Kings Park for
SOUTH AFRICA V WALES 1st Test
Day at leisure. Relax on the beach or take an optional visit to Umhlanga.
Day excursion to Rorke’s Drift. The battle of 22nd January 1879 at the Mission Station at Rorke’s Drift has become world famous. The British garrison successfully held off the Zulu army and eleven Victoria Crosses were awarded that day, seven to the 24th Regiment – now the Royal Regiment of Wales. A full guided tour will be provided.
CHOICE: EITHER 2 nights stay at Zululand Safari Lodge overlooking the valley and hills of the Ubizane Wildlife Reserve with all meals included and two game drives per day
OR 2 nights stay at Drakensberg Sun, a luxury hotel resort, set in the dramatic landscape of the Cathkin Peak area of the Drakensberg Mountains, offering breathtaking views and fresh mountain air.
Return to Durban.
Depart Durban. Arrive Johannesburg, Coach transfer to Nelspruit. Stay for 2 nights at the Sabi River Sun Resort, located on the banks of the Sabi river with its resident hippos!
Pre-Test lunch at Nelspruit Rugby Club
Transfer to Mbombela stadium Nelspruit for:

Coach transfer back to Johannesburg with visit to
Nelson Mandela’s house in Soweto. Overnight in Sandton.
Flight from Johannesburg. Arrive Victoria Falls., Stay 3 nights at Victoria Falls Safari Lodge.
Sightseeing around the Victoria Falls “The Smoke That Thunders”, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. followed by a Sunset Cruise on the Zambezi River.
Walk with Lions. Unparalleled experience of interacting with lion cubs in a walk through the African bush on the banks of the Masuwe river. Evening “Boma” dinner with Zimbabwean dishes.
Depart for Livingstone and fly to Johannesburg. Depart Johannesburg. Arrive Cape Town. Stay at the Table Bay Hotel for 4 nights.
At leisure. Optional trip to Robben Island to see. Nelson Mandela’s prison cell & get an inside story from a former prisoner. Evening dinner at Panama Jacks, the best seafood restaurant in Cape Town.
Morning trip to Table Mountain. Afternoon at leisure to walk around the V & A Waterfront.
Day trip to Cape of Good Hope travelling along Chapman’s Peak Drive, seeing the Cape Nature Reserve and taking a funicular ride up to Cape Point. Lunch included at the Harbour House restaurant at Kalks Bay. After lunch see the penguin colony at Boulders Beach and return via Simon’s Town.
Depart Cape Town.
Arrive London Heathrow.
